A4D invites you to share a smile…

Take part in the Smile for the Brain campaign by expressing a smile through the medium of art.

This could be a drawing, photograph, poem, or even a piece of music.

Share your creation with us on social media using the hashtag #smileforthebrain or send to smiles@arts4dementia.org.uk to be included in our online exhibition.

Smile for the Brain was created by Ronald Amanze (below), an A4D Trustee, Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Champion, and musician. While recovering from a stroke which led to Alzheimer’s a nurse told him to “Remember to Smile”. This had a profound impact, kick starting his mission to spread joy and fight back against his dementia through smiles and creative expression.

“Sometimes you just smile and move on” – Ronald Amanze

Art is for everyone. This campaign is designed to engage all walks of life, regardless of dementia, in arts activity to enhance wellbeing and share the health benefits of a smile. So, whether you’re old or young, a beginner or a professional artist, you can help us spread smiles, through the power of the arts.

The Smile Agenda doesn’t stop there.

Comprised of two delivery streams, alongside our online challenge, we will be creating in-person Smile for the Brain workshops that celebrate the transformational benefits of the arts and the power of creative expression.

Our expertise is supporting people living with dementia to unlock these benefits, but we believe that the Smile for the Brain workshop model can go beyond this and reach new audiences.

We want to encourage other organisations to take up the challenge, partner with us, and develop their own Smile for the Brain workshops, and inspire the wider community to smile through art.

Let’s use positivity to spark creativity.
