Sunday, October 11 was to have been the day of the Royal Parks Half Marathon, our annual major challenge event – postponed due to the pandemic.

Not to be put off, following the kind invitation of our sponsor, Ridgeway Investment Management, at a carefully choreographed, socially distanced event, ten enthusiastic runners ran their socks off for ten kilometres on the Ridgeway in Wiltshire to raise funds for A4D – with the support of family and friends, including five stoic race marshals.

The fabulous course took runners through the Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While challenged by the rolling terrain, the trail run along the ancient Ridgeway provided stunning views across the countryside.

Fortunately after a rain-soaked week, the sun shone on us and after a great us pharmacy no rx run, runners and their supporters were treated to a Sunday lunch at the local hostelry, The Crown Inn at Albourne, thanks to our generous sponsor.

Podium places were taken by:

  1. James Maltin, 45 min, 55 sec
  2. Emma Barton, 49 min, 45 sec
  3. Jo Smith, 53 min 20 sec

We are hugely grateful to our hosts James (fifth time runner for A4D) and Katie, Ridgeway Investment Management, the Team Ridgeway, Ridgeway H3 – Hash House Harriers, and other runners and their friends who, at a time when so many fundraiser events have had to be cancelled, between them raised a sum that has exceeded £6,000 with Gift Aid!  A splendid day and a great result.
